Cardio Bunnies take the Bocce Ball Championship
Mother nature must love bocce ball because it was a beautiful day for bocce on Saturday February 11th. The best bocce players this side of Alafaya Trail were in attendance. Team Schweddy Balls gave Cardio bunnies a tough run in the semifinal matchup while team turbo beat ball so hard. In a rout, Cardio Bunnies walked away with the championship beating Turbo 15-2. The team made up of Blake Herold and Kevin Itner can walk around campus with their heads held high, because they are the 2012 bocce ball champions.
UFC hosted at UCF
That's right, the Ultimate Frisbee Championship was hosted at UCF on Saturday February 4th. Over 20 teams came out to participate in the IM Ultimate Frisbee tournament this year and although it was a windy day teams were ready to play. The comp final had the clear number one seed with Channel 4 news team playing against the underdogs AEPi, who made it all the way to the finals playing iron man ultimate with no subs. In the end, fatigue got the best of AEPi and Channel 4 News team took home the championship winning 9-4. The Rec final was between the number one seed Prestige Worldwide and the number two seed Dirty Mike and the Boys. Prestige Worldwide was looking to avenge last year’s defeat in the championship game with a better showing this year. With the dynamic duo of Lukas Hayden and Kevin Wang Prestige Worldwide was able to win comfortably 9-3 and take home the Rec championship.
New Champions in Table Tennis
IM Sports wants to thank everyone who participated in the Spring 2012 Table Tennis tournament held on January 28th. We had a competitive group of students with only 3 left standing at the end of the day. For the competitive division Jordan Skidmore walked away as our champion. In our recreational division Austin Traurig returned enough backhands to sustain his dominance. One the women's side of the bracket, Tamara Khanjahanbakhsh had a serve that made her opponents head spin which made her the queen of the castle. Congrats to all competitors!!!
Racquetball Champions are crowned
Three Champions were crowned in the annual IM Racquetball Singles champion, with David Cerlaza winning Rec, Blaze Schwartz taking Comp and Carly Ponz winning the women's division. 45 participants gathered at the RWC and after 5 hours of grueling volleys of the little blue ball against four walls, those three competitors took home the shirts. Congrats!
Trivia winners show their smarts
Congratulations to the Real Men of Genius, who used their intellectual superiority to knock of the Jive Turkeys in the finals of the 2012 Sports Trivia Tournament. Seth Benes, Chad Altman, and Andrew Jenette outlasted a field of 12 teams by demonstrating that their useless sports knowledge could actually be useful. The RMOG lasted through five rounds of rigorous questioning by the trivia hostess, Ashley Lax until they squeaked by the Jive Turkeys 7-6 in the final.
"I am the Great Cornholio!"
Well it ended up being Trevor Hicks and Steven Thompson being the greatest on the UCF campus. We had an awesome field of competitors with 28 teams throwing bags at a board for fun on a Saturday afternoon. Lake Claire proved to be a perfect place to host this event and we hope everyone enjoyed this IM event.
Punt, Pass, and Kicked Off Championship Night
This year we had another great turnout for our punt, pass and kick competition to compliment championship night. On the women's side of the event Shannon Steele took home the overall (126 yd) and kicking (50yd) championships. Omaris Cooper won the passing portion with a throw of 44 yards with Megan Edgely rounding out the evening with a punting championship of 36 yards.
