Trip Cost

  • The majority of our trips fall within the $5-$30 range. Our weekend trips can sometimes range from $40-$65. The longer the trip is, the more preparation required, and how much Outdoor Adventure is able to subsidize determines the cost.

What's Included

  • We include all necessary equipment and professional guiding on all of our trips. All overnight (and some day) trips include food, water, and snacks too!
  • All participants should wear clothing appropriate for participating in physical activity outdoors (Trip Leaders will provide a packing list) and bring a personal water bottle and snacks you enjoy.
  • All Trip Leaders are either First Aid/CPR/AED Certified or Wilderness First Responders.

At this time, transportation is available for all participants on all Outdoor Adventure trips. Participants will meet at the Outdoor Adventure Center in the RWC on the day of the trip at a time designated by Trip Leaders. Trip Leaders will drive the group to the destination in our Ford 12-Passenger Vans or Ford Expedition.

Participants are allowed to drive themselves if preferred. Participants who drive themselves will meet at a designated location on the day of the trip.

We do not issue refunds in most cases.

Trip deposit or the total cost is required to hold a spot on the trip roster. We will contact individuals in the order we receive Adventure Trip Registration forms and/or individual register in person. Full payment for trips is required by the trip sign-up deadline posted for the trip or your spot will be given to someone on the waiting list. All trip costs are non-refundable, except in the following events:

  1. RWC Outdoor Adventure Trips program cancels a trip due to weather, insufficient participation, or destination availability issues.
  2. Extenuating circumstances as determined by Outdoor Adveture Assistant Director.

We host short Pre-Trip Meeting before every trip to review the trip plan and program expectations. These meetings give you the opportunity to get involved in the planning and ask questions.

Pre-Trip Meetings are mandatory and will be hosted in person in the Outdoor Adventure Center (unless otherwise stated). You must be available for the pre-trip meeting date to attend the trip. If you do not attend the pre-trip meeting, you may be dropped from the trip without a refund.

Drugs, alcohol, and firearms are prohibited on all Outdoor Adventure Trips and programs. Some environments are very sensitive, so there may be additional restrictions as needed.

Alcohol, drugs, and firearms can make the backcountry a very dangerous place. You put not only yourself at risk, but also other trip participants and leaders. If you bring substances or dangerous materials, you may be immediately removed from the trip and sent to Student Conduct upon return to UCF.

Climbing Tower

Yes! You may use your own harness, climbing shoes, and chalk bag.

HOWEVER, you may not use your own belay device. We have several that we can provide to you, free of charge, as long as you are certified to belay at the tower. You can sign up for a belay class at the Tower desk.

FREE. UCF students may climb at the tower and rent out gear at no cost.

You must pass a Test Out conducted by a Tower Attendant. The Test Out is based on our specific belay techniques and procedures - make sure you check with a Tower Attendant before taking the test to ensure you know the steps we require. If you pass, then you are certified immediately and may belay. If you fail, you must take the Belay class in order to be certified.

Sign up for technique classes at the RWC Climbing Tower front desk during normal business hours. Students can take the stairs or elevators to the first floor and go left. The desk is behind the stairs in the northeast corner of the main building. Class registration opens two weeks before the day of the class, but participants must be registered at least 48 hours in advance. Space is limited to 10 people per class.

No. There are multiple different routes of varying difficulty all over the tower. There is no particular difficulty grouping on any side. If you are looking for a particular rating or just trying to get started, ask a Tower Attendant for advice!

Nope! We have staff that are at the Tower for the purpose of belaying participants, so no experience is required.

Lake Claire

Anyone can go to Lake Claire, but you must be a current UCF student to rent any sort of equipment. We are not allowing guest passes at this time.

No. These are prohibited per our Lake Claire policies.

There are lockers located in the boathouse that you can utilize while on the water. The lockers will be sanitized by Lake Claire Attendants periodically throughout the day. Users are encouraged to use hand sanitizer, wash hands frequently and avoid touching their face.

We have single kayaks, tandem kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, and sports equipment available for rent.

It is free! Students are able to enjoy free rentals at Lake Claire. All you need is to have an active student ID to rent something out.

Participants are not allowed to swim in the water at Lake Claire.
